The Championship trophy remains in Dortmund for another year
[5.05.] It
was exactly 17:33 when the Borussia Dortmund team, the best German Champions
ever, accepted the reward for all their efforts throughout the season. Club
President, Dr. Reinhard Rauball, in his role as President of the League, handed
over the newly-engraved trophy to club captain, Sebastian Kehl who duly thrust
it high into the sky to the delight of his fellow players and the tumult of
fans.
As the now traditional football classic "We Are The
Champions" blasted out black and yellow confetti tumbled down from the
rafters. Next song up was the "Who are German Champions?" based on
a Pippi Longstocking melody.
Each and every player made their way up the steps of the West stand to receive their medals, with the injured Patrick Owomoyela (on crutches) leading the way. As they climbed they were hugged and embraced by tearful fans.
As they reached the top, each player
was presented with his medal as Norbert Dickel announced them to the applauding
fans. Then the coaching staff, Michael Zorc, the medical team and the vice
captain Roman Weidenfeller came up to get their rewards before club captain
Sebastian Kehl was up to come and collect his third title following 2001 and
2011.
A yellow block had seemed to grow amongst the fans as the players grouped and danced and sang to celebrate the defence of their title. "Dortmund boy" Kevin Großkreutz would not be denied and grabbed the microphone to lead the fans in their triumphant songs. Unfortunately the planned lap of honour with the trophy was not possible because a number of fans had climbed over the fences in front of the South Stand and run onto the pitch |
